Our Story

We help people on low incomes find safe, affordable housing and a community they can thrive in.

Homelessness is on the rise. Thousands of Victorians are still searching for a safe space to call home, many of whom experience trauma, isolation, acute mental illness, or disability.

Servants Community Housing provides a compassionate and sustainable response to this need, supporting those at risk of homelessness with long-term tenancies, live-in house managers, and established connections to support agencies, community groups, and neighbours.

Our roots

We were established in 1986, when members of Hawthorn West Baptist Church decided to do something about the closure of a rooming house in Hawthorn. We’ve grown from there. We continue thanks to the support of local churches, who continue to invest in the lives of our residents through fundraising, BBQs, and working bees, with some even partnering with us to develop houses for people at risk of homelessness.

Our purpose

Providing respect, dignity, hope, and opportunity.

As a Christian organisation, we express God’s love and values through relationship, service to others, respect, and hospitality.

Dignity: We honour every person by respecting their privacy, desires, independence, rights, religion, physical, and mental needs.

Relationship: We invest wholeheartedly in people, valuing their stories and work to create genuine, sustainable communities.

Opportunity: In our commitment to providing safe, caring homes, we look for opportunities where residents can grow emotionally, relationally, spiritually and personally.
For people experiencing vulnerability and marginalisation to thrive in housing that provides a community that knows and loves them.
